Wendy Mulhern’s “Infinite Permission” poetry book with the Painted Body images!

It is such a gift when prayers manifest. I have been praying for many years for compelling collaborations with other magical folks. Over the last five years, I have taken the Painted Body ritualistic photography images in the desert six times with other brave and open souls, I have been part of creating the inspiring full length documentary Painted in the Desert with MK Barr, I had twenty-two fabulous people write their own descriptions for my divination cards in my Oracle of Initiation: Rainbows in the Dark book, as well as having brilliant support through Janet Elk as the graphics goddess for the book and Lunnea Weatherstone as the editor extraordinaire. So I have been incredibly blessed.

And now, another gift.

Wendy Mulhern glows. She floats through Flying Turtle Dance, beaming love and delight in such an infectious way that you have no choice but to be caught up in the adventure of life with her. My deer friend Beegee first alerted me to her poetry about a year ago, and I fell in love with her daily posts about claiming your own brilliance. As life will do, we had a mutual draw to each others work, and had separately been waiting to ask the other to collaborate. And boy has that instinct turned out beautifully.

Our visions are so similar, as she says so eloquently in our collaborative book, “Infinite Permission will take you along the path of liberation-liberation from constricting concepts of body image, identity and purpose to a fuller range of movement and a deeper sense of spiritual wellness.”

I also want to comment on the synergy between the poetry and my Painted Body images. With poetry it so important to allow the words to be what the reader brings to them. Poetry is such an evocative and luscious medium, as with any art, the palette against which the observer projects their own needs, desires and experiences. It must be left fluid, and unconstrained for the reader to define it over and over again for themselves. So illustrating poetry is a tricky prospect. What Wendy and I both found was that the Painted Body imagery actually added to the work while leaving it vast and unconstricted. This is one of the most satisfying parts of the project for me, that we actually added to the power of her poems. This is what is possible in great collaborations, and I hope you enjoy this inspiring sacred text.
